Fusion, very powerful node based Visual Effects package, was the signature product of eyeon Software Inc. from last 25 years. In September 2014 Blackmagic Design acquired Fusion. To the biggest surprise for the Animation and VFX industry, BMD made it commercially free for all Visual Effects artists.

Blackmagic Design released Fusion 7 in two variations :

  1. Fusion 7‘ – Free standalone version for freelancers and small scale studios
  2. Fusion 7 Studio‘ – Priced at $995 for large post production and VFX studios with advanced 2D and 3D tools, stereoscopic 3D and optical flow tool sets, network rendering, OpenFX support and many more

But, it was all good only for Windows operating system based artists. There was no free Mac version of Fusion.

BMD CEO Grant Petty announced that if any visual effect artist buys Fusion Studio for Windows, he/she can use the same dongle on the Mac and download Fusion for Mac free of cost. It is the same way, they are operating DaVinci Resolve.

Fusion 8 will be available on all three major operating systems : Windows, Mac and Linux. It will open up new possibilities for millions of VFX artists, motion graphic designers, broadcast people and video editors.
