GST stands for goods and services tax. It is an aggregate total of successive taxes that used to be in use earlier. Because of GST, VAT and service tax regime are no longer in play. When GST was first introduced in 2017, the country had mixed reactions. Some appreciated the move and welcomed it, whereas others were doubtful about its implementation.

Along with GST, came many benefits. First, the registration process was digitized and also removed the cascading effect from the tax regime. There was a proper tax tier system that was followed by various goods and services and the disorganized sectors like construction became more disciplined.

However, since its launch, GST has also undergone many changes and the CGST Act is one of them. This is not a new law or act. In fact, the CGST Act has been a part of GST since its inception.

  • Now you can pay the suppliers electronically as well.
  • The registration threshold has now increased to ₹40 lakh from ₹20 lakh. Now businesses who have an annual turnover of up to ₹40 lakh are exempt from taxes.
