LA SIGGRAPH has always been instrumental as one of the best knowledge sharing platform for the creative and technical industry of 3D Animation and Visual Effects. In the past, they have conducted outstanding amazing behind the scenes and technical chair sessions. Their recent webinar of Robotics and AI in VFX industry has been a huge hit and received a loud applaud from all over the world.
Some are calling Dune the best sci-fi movie of the century! And a big reason for that are it’s amazing effects, bound by Denis Villeneuve‘s vision that they should look real, not over the top just because we can. Heads of all the DNEG departments that worked to make this a reality will speak with us about how they were able to accomplish that goal.
Some of the VFX of Dune movie inlcudes:
- Giant space vessels transport people from world to world with the aid of ‘the Spice’
- House of Atreides’ ornithopters flutter, insect-like, around the desert planet of Arrakis
- Harkonnen ships at Arrakeen
- Several epic ground battles
- While Arrakeen, itself, lies in the rocky desert like a massive tomb. And below the ground, massive sand worms move, displacing the sand above, emerging at intervals to devour whole mining vessels.
Footage of exteriors from Norway, Abu Dhabi, and Wadi Rum in Jordan, as well as interiors from the huge Origo Studios soundstage and backlot in Budapest, Hungary, are combined. Their practical effects enhanced with CG to create effects that look like they belong in the real world.
