What is ILM?
Founded in 1975 by George Lucas, ILM has pioneered many of the techniques and technologies that are now used to create some of the most iconic and visually stunning films of all time. It is one of the most renowned and respected visual effects studios in the world.
They are instrumental for pioneering the use of digital compositing. It was one of the first studios to use compositing to combine live action plates and CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) in films. The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm, which included ILM. This acquisition allowed ILM to work on a wide range of Disney-owned franchises, including the new “Star Wars” films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some of their most iconic works includes Star Wars series, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Terminator series, Transformers series, Harry Potter series, Avatar series and tons of Marvel and DC movies.
VFX Masterclass on ‘Jurassic World’ series
David Vickery, Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at ILM, will conduct it. Vickery is a BAFTA winner with over 20 years of experience in the visual effects industry. He has served as Head of Department and Production-side VFX Supervisor on major blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Fast and Furious 6, and the Jurassic World franchise.
His work has been recognized with an Academy Award ® nomination and a BAFTA Award for Special Visual Effects for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in addition to numerous Visual Effects Society Award nominations and wins.
In the masterclass, Vickery will share his insights and experiences from working on the Jurassic World series, one of the most successful visual effects franchises in history. He will discuss the challenges and rewards of creating photorealistic dinosaurs, prep, shoot and post as well as the latest innovations in visual effects technology.
