Needless to say that the Brahmastra – Part One: Shiva movie is a visual extravaganza. This Indian fantasy film transports its audiences to a magical world of superheroes, ancient legends, mystical powers, with chart buster songs. The ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy did full justice to their respective characters, which were supported by astonishing VFX of Brahmastra. The film follows the journey of Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor), a young man with mystical powers, and his friends as they battle against the dark forces to protect the world.

The magic of Brahmastra went very well as a full entertainment package. The film got negative criticism due to its dialogues. But, otherwise the visual spectacle is applauded worldwide. In a nutshell, it is a fantasy film that blends Indian mythology, superhero elements, and sci-fi concepts.

Brahmastra will always be remembered as one of the best VFX movies of Indian Film Industry which pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling in a commercially successful manner.

DNEG (Double Negative) and ReDefie (RD) studios used all latest and cutting edge 3D Animation and VFX techniques to bring its magical world of Astraverse to life. They articulately delivered Director Ayan Mukerji‘s vision of such ambitious storyline into the silver screen. They created a magnificent world of Astraverse with top notch VFX, which actually narrate the story and helped for character development. So, it was not a forceful visual effects any more. Visual Effects were compelling the screenplay and helped to push the storytelling.

The biggest challenge was to create an unique yet believable Astraverse universe. To be very honest, the studios were directly competing with internationally acclaimed projects of Marvel, DC, Sony, Disney, Warner Bros. and more. Indian audiences has seen Avengers, Avatar 1, The Jungle Book, Matrix series and many more movies which are heavily based on superior 3D Animation and Visual Effects.

The mammoth task was to stand strong in front of such international giants in terms of quality. Another challenge was to make it seamless experience of compositing of live action shooting plates and CGI elements. Both the studios nailed it beautifully by mastering the art of blending reality and fantasy.

The success of Brahmastra has opened up new possibilities for the future of Animation and VFX in the Indian Cinema Industry.
