‘Ask Us Anything’ is the Boris FX’s YouTube live series which serves as a platform where any 3D and VFX artist can meet online with the product team of software. It becomes a common ground where software users can directly solve all their technical queries. Such interaction is an actual bridge between creative artists and software companies.
Boris FX’s latest version of Silhouette is powered with AI and ML tools for Roto and VFX artists. Some of the major are Matte Assist ML, Optical Flow ML Tracker and Retime ML. Apart from these, there are many new features which makes it ideal for any pipeline of any post production studio.
Can VFX be automated?
The core objective of using AI and ML tools is to introduce automation in the production pipeline. Many leading 3D Animation and VFX software companies have already introduced such tools in the recent versions. Potentially, it can reduce up to 30% production time. Some of the major tools are:
- Adobe Photoshop: Content-Aware Fill and Generative Fill automates the removal of unwanted objects from video and insertion of new elements via prompt
- Foundry Nuke: CopyCat is used to streamline the VFX pipeline and workflow
- Adobe Premiere Pro: Generative Extend can create entirely new frames
- Maya: Automated character animation, in association with Wonder Studio
AI and ML driven tools can enhance creative processes. It allows Animation and Visual Effects artists to focus more on artistic expression rather than repetitive tasks. However, while automation is transforming VFX, it is not replacing human artists.
It’s time for all the artists to upgrade their skill and become a Generalist. Such high end technical knowledge will help to beat the AI and ML based VFX tools.
