In the series of acquisition and merger, here comes the latest news. The leading VFX Plug-in developer Boris FX acquired mocha, the Academy Award winning 3D tracking software from the parent company, Imagineer Systems.

Boris FX and Imagineer Systems are big time players in the Media and Entertainment industry. The strategic merger of both the visual effects software creator companies will now be producing better and more advanced tools for broadcast and post production media. The acquisition agreement is signed on 15th December, 2014.

What is Boris FX?

Boris FX has wide range of production ready applications and have strong affiliation with major brands like Adobe, Apple, Sony, Quantel, Nexidia, Grass Valley and others. It’s tool set ranges from broadcasting, visual effects, motion graphics, post production, editing, titiling, compositing to wide areas of industry professionals with integrated workflow.

Continuum Complete is the flagship product of Boris FX which gives extensive workflow for keying, color grading, film grain, 3D particles, image touch up and restoration, 3D lens flare and many more.

What is mocha?

Imagineer Systems is very well known for its proprietary Planar Tracking technology. The most successful software, mocha Pro has been honored by Academy of Motion Pictures with a Science and Engineering Award in 2013. It has been a must VFX tool for so many blockbuster Hollywood movies, commercials, tv series and other broadcast categories.

The USP has been tracking, masking, wire and rig removal techniques.

The acquisition of mocha by Boris FX

Boris Yamnitsky, founder and CEO, Boris FX announced that the merger will be very much beneficial for the Animation and Visual Effects Industry. Together then can create more comprehensive and advanced techniques and tools. The tools will complement each other to produce hassle free post production pipeline and no data loss output.

The back and forth between various softwares will be slashed down as the upcoming technologies will be integrated to increase productivity in less time frame. So, the artists can focus on their work, rather than worrying about the data loss which happens when doing import export between two different softwares. Many things will be updated in both the softwares to accommodate such ease of operation.

There has been changes in the management for smooth workflow. Boris Yamnitsky has appointed as the group chairman and Ross Shain as the chief marketing officer for both Boris FX and Imagineer.

Even after the merging, both companies will retain their own identities but will work towards on the same mission – to serve the VFX industry better!
