The future of M&E Industry
In the latest AVGC domain, the convergence of Animation, VFX, Faming, and film is shaping the future of the M&E industry. Many mergers and acquisitions of leading 3D and Post Production Studios are playing a dynamic interplay of technologies and creativity. The chain reaction is leading to groundbreaking developments in both the sectors – fostering economy and generation of new contents. More and more studios are pivoted to create immersive experiences.
The lines between Animation and live-action are blurring even further, with films like “Avatar: The Way of Water” pushing the boundaries of what’s real and what’s rendered. This box office success opens doors for innovative storytelling, where animated characters seamlessly coexist with their real life actors.
Another example which became a benchmark to talk about the future of M&E industry is the Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian. It extensively used the power of real-time rendering and virtual production. By combining live-action filming with innovative VFX techniques, the show has set new standards for visual storytelling. The integration of gaming technology, such as Unreal Engine, has allowed filmmakers to create realistic environments in real time, reducing post-production time and costs. During shooting of Mandalorian, the LED walls replaced traditional green screens, offering real-time lighting and depth. This not only enhances realism but also empowers on-set creativity, leading to more nuanced performances and a deeper emotional connection with the story.
One of the most remarkable turn up happened in 2017. Walt Disney acquired 21st Century Fox (Some business verticals) in $52.4 Billion. At stands as a monumental deal, which reshaped the landscape of film and television. This merger allowed Disney to expand its content library and strengthen its position in the global market.
To talk about the Gaming industry, it was the acquisition of Codemasters (the UK-based game developer and publisher) by the gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA) in a $1.2 Billion. It gave a boost to the racing gaming genre.
Rise in following technologies are becoming the key factors of this gigantic growth:
- AI based tools (Midjourney, RunwayML, DALL·E, DeepMotion, RADiCAL, Wonder Studio, GliaStar and many more)
- Virtual Production
- Real time rendering
- Advanced cloud technologies which can handle heavy collaborative projects
As per the official papers of Precision Reports, the global Animation and Gaming industry market size will rise up to USD 522 Billion by 2027.
To sum up the future of M&E industry don’t belong to individual sectors. It will be cohesion of many verticals and serve as a huge source of immersive experiences. Imagine an animated film where can wear a VR headset and explore the world alongside the characters. You can also influence their decisions and shaping the narrative. Or a live-action drama where VFX seamlessly blend with real life sets with augmented landscapes. Such enigma will blue the lines between reality and fiction.
