V-Ray and Arnold wins Sci-Tech Academy Award 2017

V-Ray and Arnold got rewarded by Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Committee. They both win Academy Award in 2017.

Realistic rendering output is one of the biggest challenges of Animation and VFX industry. V-Ray and Arnold, from Chaos Group and Autodesk (Autodesk purchased Arnold from Solid Angle in 2016) respectively, are the biggest game changers. Both the rendering engines have provided outstanding imaginary in numerous Hollywood blockbuster CG and visual effects movies. 

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) awarded original creator and designer of both the rendering engines. Scientific and Technical Academy Awards felicitated V-Ray and Arnold for their technological advancements to pioneer new age rendering algorithms. Both have distinctive ray tracing 3D rendering approach.

  • Vladimir Koylazov (founder of Chaos Group) : creator of V-Ray

Marcos received Academy plaque on 4th January 2017 and Vladimir will be receiving on 11th February 2017. 

Such Sci-Tech Academy awards are not given based on one movie rendering output. Their scope ranges from years of consecutive efforts and highest standard output. Both the rendering engines have successfully completed more than a decade of innovation and improvements. Both are available as standalone renderer on platforms of Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. This makes them compatible with various leading 3D applications like Maya, Houdini and Cinema 4D.
