The jobs that AI cannot replace and why – Part 1

the jobs that AI cannot replace business leaders

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing how we work and function. Some jobs are already being replaced by AI, while others are being transformed. But there are also some jobs that AI is unlikely to replace anytime soon. In this detailed case study blog article, we will explore some of the jobs that AI cannot replace. We will discuss the reasons why these jobs are safe from automation, and we will also look at how AI is actually helping to create new jobs in these fields.

In real human life, we deal with grey shade of emotions in real life. We blur the boundaries of truth and lies. Our decision can help one and harm the other. Sometimes, it may be the power of ego or money where logic gets backstage. Consciously, we do illegal or unethical things to finish the job. Sometimes, there is only a gut feeling. It doesn’t have any analysis or fact check. AI is completely failed here, till now. It is unlikely that it will be able to do so in the near future.

Our many jobs require human skills like feelings, emotional intelligence, creativity, adaptability, and complex social skills. These jobs often involve working with people, motivating or ruling them, being them in physical state in odd conditions and so on. All these are simply too complex for AI to understand. These jobs often involve making decisions that require a deep understanding of human behavior and the world around us. AI innovation is not yet able to make these kinds of decisions.

There are two classic cases of it.

  1. The best example to understand is the 2004 blockbuster Hollywood movie titled ‘I, Robot‘. Directed by Alex Proyas and lead role acted by Will Smith. The robot rescues Will instead of a girl child. Will could had help himself and get survived, the girl cannot. But, the robot helps Will because the algorithm is written so. Robot calculates very less probability of a girl child over Will.
  2. Same thing with the 2010 Indian blockbuster movie titled ‘Enthiran‘. The robot named Chitti saves a girl who was stucked in building, caught in fire. But, in doing so, by accidentally, the humanoid carry her fully exposed, as she was bathing. The robot didn’t understand to wrap her in any kind of clothes. She gets emotional damage of this situation that the crowd is seeing her in such manner. To escape from it, she runs. But, doing so, she got hit by a truck and the accident kills her.

Both the examples shows that AI cannot have human feeling or emotions. Because these cannot be fit in algorithm or calculations.

Well, this is just an introduction, of course. The series of ‘The jobs that AI cannot replace and why’ would go on to discuss specific examples of jobs that AI cannot kill, as well as the ways in which AI is actually helping to create new jobs in these fields. The world was never ready for such gigantic job displacement and automation process. But, it is actually happening and we all are part of it now. Obviously, rise of AI will lead to massive unemployment, but it is nothing but a change that you cannot avoid or stop.

Before going ahead, you need to understand one thing.

You cannot ignore or neglect AI, you must embrace it, and learn from it for your own betterment.

Now, we know what we are dealing with and how it can impact our future. So, lets start with the first job that AI cannot replace.

1. Business leaders (Director, Founder, CEO, COO, CFO, CMO, CTO, VP, Manager etc.)

What do you think that the business leaders do?

They take risks, they take big decisions, they do merge and acquisition, they take funding for growth hacking of business, they remain aligned to the vision and mission statements of a company – All these are true. But, do you know the biggest thing they do?

They do ‘people management’.

Looks like a small thing, but they build the entire business on basis of it. No any business leader can do all the work alone. He/she needs the skilled manpower. Such personnel are the key behind the success of any company. According to a latest study by Business Insider, 90% of top level management uses emotional intelligence for growth hacking of their business. All thanks to their visionary thinking capabilities.

Limitations of AI

Humans are living persons, with respective strengths and weaknesses. You cannot predict any human based on some data calculations and algorithms. In the age of AI innovation, it is still too complex to write such codes to understand human intelligence and behaviour. In corporate or real world, any robot or AI based program cannot connect with human teams in terms of emotional feelings. Yes, they can stimulate human emotions and cannot create form genuine emotional connections.

limitations of ai

It is not possible for AI to:

  • Create a positive working environment.
  • To replicate the authenticity of human interaction
  • Boost up employee morale.
  • Increase the integrity of employees to the company.
  • Adapt and change policies on the fly to deal with sudden unforeseen problem.
  • Take appropriate decision during delicate situations.
  • To support employees on a personal level.

Basically, AI works on a predefined parameters and historical data. It cannot interpret nuances of real life and respond appropriately to novel problems. There are times when a business leader has to balance the company’s interest and social responsibility. Only Human Intelligence can work here to take a perfect decision.

How AI can help business leaders?

As mentioned earlier, you have to embrace AI. We need to use AI based business tools to increase productivity by engaging them to do the mundane but important works. AI tools has rapidly taken entry in various business verticals and doing wonders for them. In a short span, it is transforming industries and revolutionizing business processes.

How AI can help business

Given below are some of the smart ways to use it for the business.

In the corporate world, use AI as a productive tool and let humans to take the leadership through human intelligence, experience, emotional values and data based informed decisions. So, business leaders is one the jobs that AI cannot replace. As the study of Forbes, employees who have a strong relationship with their leaders are more engaged and productive.

You need to balance both the things – harnessing the power of AI and understanding the limitations of AI. Understanding the fine balance between these two, will help business leaders to leverage technology to take decision with a human perspective. The ultimate goal is to sync its capabilities, but maintaining the human touch to take by the time of taking critical business decisions.

So, in a nutshell, AI cannot replace the essential role of human business leaders.
