Cantina Creative opens new studio in Vancouver

Cantina Creative, which has previously worked on Hollywood blockbuster films such as Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Adam, has announced the opening of a new studio in Vancouver. It is a new addition in the VFX studios of Canada. It will leverage the local talent and diverse pool of artists to expand its business further.

Earlier this year, Cantina Creative joined Territory Group, a collective of global creative businesses. The launch of its new studio in Vancouver will boost its global position and further expand its offering.

Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Cantina Creative, Sean Cushing, stated that Vancouver’s immense talent pool and tax credits offered by British Columbia were major reasons for the studio’s expansion. He added that studios and artists had shown their support for this expansion, allowing them to begin work on projects immediately.

Cantina Creative has hired Jason Dowdeswell, who brings over 25 years of experience in the VFX and film industry, to oversee the Vancouver operations. Dowdeswell has previously worked on major Hollywood releases, including Iron Man 3, Stuart Little, and Starship Troopers. His recent credentials are Fistful of Vengeance and Firefly Lane. His extensive professional connections across North America and Canada will assist Cantina in establishing a strong presence in the region.

Dowdeswell expressed his excitement about joining Cantina Creative and its expanding VFX capabilities. Creative Director and Co-Founder of Cantina Creative, Stephen Lawes, welcomed Dowdeswell to the team, stating that his experience and leadership skills would ensure a seamless start for the studio in Vancouver. The expansion marks a significant moment for the team and strengthens Territory Group’s global presence.
