Porsche needs no introduction. It is one of an iconic names in the automobile industry. The parent company made it larger than life with it’s latest commercial. The making of video is an absolute class of visual art and design.
As per the typical Animation and VFX pipeline, the commercial is fine compositing work of live action footage with multiple CG passes and effects. The core concept is to create timeless black Porsche from various ink in water designs. The beautiful fluid effects of ink transforms into various machinery and vehicle parts. Live action shooting of ink drops in water is enhanced by surreal CGI. Both are overlapped in coherence to give seamless composition.
Berlin based Post Production studio Storz & Escherich had achieved this cinematic look and feel through their creative genius, directed by Florian Pack. Production belongs to BAKERY FILMS. Making of Porsche Black Edition shows the use Autodesk 3ds Max and SideFX Houdini on a huge way. Both the softwares helped the digital artists to create complex scenes with greater ease and accuracy.
The VFX concept is based on the lines of abstraction and materialization. The drop of black ink explodes and it starts chain reaction to create the black Porsche 911 Carrera edition. It was a mammoth task for the entire post production team which required seamless interaction between Animation and Compositing artists.
