What is Mocha?
Mocha is a powerful, award-winning Planar Tracker software, used in the Visual Effects (VFX) industry. It is used by professional VFX artists to create amazing visuals effects for films, commercials, television shows, and video games. It can track the position, rotation, and scale of an object over time, and can be used to stabilize shaky footage or replace the background of a shot.
In a nutshell, Mocha is a motion tracking and rotoscoping (masking) software which is highly accurate to solve complex shots. It is coined as an industry-standard tool for VFX workflow, which is highly used in post production pipelines of studios of all sizes and capacities.
Mocha Pro is an advanced version of the software, with additional features such as a 3D camera solver and support for stereo and 360-degree video.
How does Mocha work?
Mocha’s powerful tracking algorithms can detect and analyze the motion of an object in a video. This information is then carried out to create a motion path animation that match exactly to the motion of the object. This solved tracking data is also used to create 3D camera tracking, so that objects or effects can be placed accurately in three-dimensional space.
This motion path can also be transferred to other post production softwares to get more data control. It’s flexible and powerful software architecture helps for seamless import-export of motion tracked data to various other applications. Mocha is available as a standalone software, as well as a plug-in for various video editing and compositing software such as Adobe After Effects, Nuke, FCP, Avid and Premiere Pro.
